Since its establishment in 2000, first as Regional Resource Centres, and later as the RUAF Global Partnership, RUAF has played a crucial role in advancing urban food systems transformation through action and advocacy, and in promoting evidence-based studies and research to inform policy and practice.

RUAF has engaged with local and international partner organisations in over 100 cities across 50 countries. Currently, the RUAF Global Partnership is comprised of nine organizations (three international research organizations, three cities, and three non-governmental organisations) and a wide network of Associates, working synergistically to enhance food security, social justice, and reduce environmental impacts of the food system. The RUAF Network continuously works with city and municipal governments to adapt, change and implement policies to promote inclusive and resilient urban food systems.
