On 17th February 2021 RUAF will host an online panel session on City Region Food Systems at the 4th annual Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) Africa Forum, together with FAO and CGIAR’s Water Land and Ecosystems programme.
This year’s MUFPP Africa Forum will be held between 15 and 19 February 2021 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, with a hybrid in-person and online programme. The event is organised by the MUFPP secretariat, the City of Ouagadougou, the City of Milan and Foundazione ACRA.
During the four days cities will exchange updates on good city practices and their progress in relation to the commitments made in past Forums. There will be ample space for discussion and work on sustainability issues and food policies especially in light of current global challenges, most notably the Covid-19 pandemic and the climate crisis.
The goal of the Forum is to strengthen MUFPPs African cities network and – more specifically – drafting of a declaration of African cities to present at upcoming international events such as the World Food System Summit held in September 2021.
Assessment of City Region Food System Vulnerabilities to Climate Change and Pandemics
This session hosted by RUAF provides an introduction to the City Region Food Systems concept, process, and toolkit through the lens of resilience to climate events and pandemic measures. Project leaders from three African pilot cities will share insights from their vulnerability assessments. This will be followed by a technical presentation on the development and use of indicators, including new resources to help signatory cities utilise the Indicator Framework developed for the MUFPP.
Date and time: Wednesday, 17 February 2021, 10:30am -12:00pm (GMT)
