March 8-13, 2010 Singapore The theme of this event shall be Futuristic Environment‐Friendly & Sustainable Farming Technologies For Growing Any Plants AnyWhere. A significant part of the event will pertain specifically to the researchers, growers and suppliers involved in the horticulture industry and the health‐conscious consumers. We hope to bring together between 500 and 800 scientists, growers, crop advisors and manufacturers involved in the horticulture sector from more than 60 countries around the world. Hydroponics/Substrate Culture is gaining popularity all over the world because of its concept of simplicity, cleanliness, high productivity and high quality plant products. Organic farming is also gaining popularity because of its concept of recycling organic wastes. Combining these two wonderful concepts has developed a new hybrid technology named organic hydroponics. Serious application of these technologies can help boost the production of staple food like rice, wheat, barley and other nutritious food like fruits and vegetables almost anywhere in the world irrespective of various limitations. Migration of people from rural areas to urban areas has become a norm nowadays around the world. Town Councils, municipalities and corporations have to meet the twin needs of feeding the population with quality food and at the same time create employment opportunities for their citizens. Soilless culture technologies have further prompted 'smart' people living in towns and cities to practice urban/micro farming & sustainable farming in limited spaces near homes and on empty rooftops with available & limited resources. Growing of marine plants or marine hydroponics has silently contributed directly or indirectly to the global food, fertilizer and industrial supplies. In aquaponics, plants are grown by using the mineralized waste water from the fish tanks or fish farms. Growing of ornamental aquatic plants in aquariums called as phytoponics or planted tanks is another booming hobby. Greenhouse Technology guarantees the success of the above technologies. Hydroponics also supports indoor plants and the landscape industry which contributes to the productivity of the people indirectly. These technologies may be "worlds apart" but they have definitely complemented and supplemented one another in sustaining agricultural production, growing of healthy plants and keeping our environment clean and green. Agri‐tourism enhances public awareness in the above fields. ICESC-2010 will focus on all these interesting topics. Seminars and workshops on selected topics have also been planned in addition to exhibitions and demonstrations. We have put up a tentative program for the event in the website www.icesc‐2010.com. This program will be constantly updated and fine‐tuned based on the feedback that we get. Please bookmark www.icesc‐2010.com in your favorite list and check on the updates frequently. We are building up this event as a delegate‐friendly event by accommodating as much feedback as possible in such a way that all delegates shall have a feel of ownership and pride.
